Hello, and welcome to my site. I am Sung Won Cho, but you may call me Steve if that is easier for you. Contrary to most beliefs, however, Won is NOT my middle name. It's just the second syllable of my Korean name. Please do not EVER write Sung W. Cho, or Sung W.o.n Cho.
I am a rising freshman at MIT now, after five long but fun years at Groton. I chose MIT after many hours of deliberation, and I am sure it will be a great place! Right now, it seems like I will be in Simmons dormitory, which seems like an awesome place. So psyched!
Originally, I am from ChunCheon, a small city in South Korea. Most people have probably never heard of that city and that's understandable. Not only is ChunCheon a relatively small city with only about 250,000 inhabitants, it is about one hours away from Seoul, the capital city.
My interests are mostly related to science and math. I am not a huge fan of other subjects, but I still enjoy them once in a while. I have always loved science, especially biology, and I have been interested in insects since I was in preschool at age 4.
I was inspired to create this site after I worked at Harvard University under Dr. Brian Farrell and Dr. Jessica Rykken. I worked on the Boston Harbor Islands All Taxa Biodiversity Index (ATBI) project, with the purpose of figuring out what species of arthropods live in which parts of the Boston Harbor Islands. My project is like a small scale version of the ATBI project, since my goal is to find out what species live on the Groton campus.
This project was made easier with the support from Mr. David Black, my school advisor, who was also my AP Environmental Science teacher in my third form year. He supplied me with many of the vital equipments, such as dissecting microscopes, forceps, and other necessary pieces, as well as letting me use his classroom as my work base. This project could not have been started without him. Thank you Mr.Black.
