Welcome, insect lovers, to this website, where you can learn about insects, especially the ones in the Groton, Massachusetts area. I am a high school student currently attending the school as a junior, and I have decided to create this site due to my deep interest in arthropods. When I first started this website, my main goal was to catch as many species of arthropods on and near my school campus as possible and categorize them. However, I ended up creating a school club for arthropods with members who hold interest in arthropods.
My goal this year, other than to continue my categorization, is to spread interest in insects to younger students in the area. I am often surprised at the level of abhorrence and intolerance many people at my school feel towards the little creatures. I hope that by contacting younger students in the nearby community, I can raise interest in insects among students.
For that purpose, I am currently in the process of putting together some form of a small program that teachers could use in their classes to teach their students about bugs. There are a few websites that offer such information, but many of them are either too basic or too sophisticated for use in elementary or middle school classes.
I am also available to go to schools in the Groton area during the school year to have a session or two on insects during science classes. If you are interested, please contact me at the information below.
Finally, if you see any strange insects or bugs in the Groton or nearby area in Massachusetts, feel free to contact me with the pictures, and I will try my best to identify them. If you want, you could also place the specimen(s) in alcohol and post them to Groton School.
